The challenge of this small lot in an urban walk street Venice was to maximize square footage without sacrificing natural light and openness. We strategically converted existing first floor of the house into two car garage and added a two story volume for the rest of the program. With a tight lot, we explored the idea of a rooftop deck with a stair tower that acts as a light well. With the restrictive Venicespecific plan requirements, the exterior form responds to traditional beach bungalow neighborhoods in a transitional language of repetitive dormers and roof decks.
